From the Present's Future: A Letter to the President
August 25, 2025
Office of the President
Malacañang Palace
JP Laurel Street, San Miguel, Manila
Mr. President:
I am writing this letter to you to inform you about the well-being of the "Pag-asa ng Bayan", the students.
I am writing this letter to reach out to you on the education system of our country. I believe, you are doing your best to improve it. I highly appreciate your effort. But, what remains the real problem of the education sector is the well-being of the students.
Students these days are prone to mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc.. which affects their academic performance. I am fully aware of the steps you are doing regarding this issue. But, Mr. President it's not enough. Bigger actions are needed for these kind of problems. Especially now that it has been affecting millions of Filipino students.
I am hoping that certain actions will be done and laws regarding students' well-being may be implemented. Hence, we hope for a bigger action.
We highly appreciate the thought of adding more guidance counselors to schools, promoting inclusivity, and conducting seminars on students' mental health. Nevertheless, these are not enough.
I think we should look on the main problem of the students inside the classroom. I have identified that one of the problems students are facing are loads of schoolwork. They need to do schoolwork even on weekends and holidays; that was supposed to be a time with their family, friends, and time for rest and leisure.
I believe that students, just like our teachers, have their own lives and families too. If our teachers get tired, we, the students get tired too. We are both humans, and not robots who tirelessly work for hours and even days.
Let's not just look on one side, let's look in everyone's perspective.
This is for the future of our country. Para sa mga Pag-asa ng Bayan.
Best regards,
Kate Bernice R. Macaranas
